Migration Path:

NetApp will still continue to support backup and recovery of Microsoft
Exchange 5.5 on filers using SnapManager 3.1 for Exchange (SME-3.1), even
after the EOA of SnapManager Exchange 5.5. SME-3.1 supports backup and
recovery of Exchange 5.5 databases using Snapshots and SnapRestore. A
significant benefit of SME-3.1 is that it supports Exchange Server 2000
and 2003 as well, thus providing a migration path to newer versions of
Exchange Server. The main difference is that SnapManager Exchange 5.5
utilizes the CIFS protocol to connect to the storage array while SME-3.1
utilizes blocks protocols such as FibreChannel and iSCSI. Therefore,
while the same NetApp filer may be used for data storage, the protocol
used would need to be updated. NetApp’s SnapDrive product provides
support for FibreChannel as well as iSCSI and has been qualified to work
with SME-3.1

Please contact your NetApp sales representative to assist you
with this transition process and assist you with the proper methods and
procedures to follow.

5. NetApp Support Policies after End of Availability

NetApp announces end of availability dates for hardware and software products as these products progress through their lifecycles. End of Availability (EOA) is defined as the last date by which a customer may place an order for that product. End of Support (EOS) is defined as the last date on which NetApp will provide support for that product. To protect customers’ investments in these products, NetApp is committed to continue supporting contract customers for a period of time after announcing end of availability.

6. Continuation of Hardware Support

For all equipment under a hardware contract, NetApp will continue to repair or replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) for a period of five years from the End of Availability date, for each hardware product. NetApp reserves the right to substitute functionally equivalent systems and peripherals that may possibly require a software upgrade.

7. Continuation of Software Support

For all customers under a software subscription plan, continuation of support falls into two categories:

a) NetApp will test and qualify new software releases running on discontinued hardware for a period of two years after hardware End of Availability date. Maintenance releases will be delivered at approximately three-month intervals following a major release.

b) NetApp will develop bug fixes (software patches) only on general availability (current) releases. Bug fixes will not be undertaken on software that has reached End of Availability or that is not the current release.

8. Detailed Information for Field Sales

This section displays the information that will be posted on the NOW EOA site, concurrently with the planned Field Alert.

Migration path: NetApp will still continue to support backup and recovery of Microsoft Exchange 5.5 on filers using SnapManager 3.1 for Exchange (SME-3.1), even after the EOA of SnapManager Exchange 5.5. SME-3.1 supports backup and recovery of Exchange 5.5 databases using Snapshots and SnapRestore. A significant benefit of SME-3.1 is that it supports Exchange Server 2000 and 2003 as well, thus providing a migration path to newer versions of Exchange Server. The main difference is that SnapManager Exchange 5.5 utilizes the CIFS protocol to connect to the storage array while SME-3.1 utilizes blocks protocols such as FibreChannel and iSCSI. Therefore, while the same NetApp filer may be used for data storage, the protocol used would need to be updated. NetApp’s SnapDriveTM product provides support for FibreChannel as well as iSCSI and has been qualified to work with SME-3.1.

In case you do not have access to this site, the migration process is also documented in the SME-3.1 IAG (manual).
